Paula Romero
Filmmaker. Director. Writer
I am a Journalist and filmmaker based between Bristol (England) and Seville (Spain), with over 8 years of experience in creating audiovisual content and documentary pieces for personal projects, clients, and productions in the UK, Spain, and Latin America.
From a young age, I began seeing the world through the lens of my camera with a desire to document reality, amplify voices, and focus on untold stories to bring about social change. In 2012, I made my first observational documentary, El ángel de Itinsana (Colombia, 2012), a few years later, the documentary We Have Never Been Superwoman (Spain, 2016), which addresses the demystification of the superwoman stereotype. I have also made several short films such as Capas 2.0 and commissioned documentaries for NGOs and media outlets, including Secuoya (2016) and Confinement Stories (2020).
In 2021, I finished my MA in Documentary Production at the University of the West of England, and a year later, I released my latest short film, Mothertruckers (UK and Spain, 2022), which has been screened at over 30 international film festivals and has won more than 10 awards. It has been showcased in various countries in Europe and South America, as well as the United States and Australia, and is currently available on the FILMIN platform.
I have also worked as a camera operator on independent documentary feature films, including Digging Deeper (UK, 2021) and Protest (UK, 2022), and I am a promoter of the artistic and multidisciplinary project, Where Are Our Nipples? which is still in develop.
Currently, I work in the television industry for productions such as BBC, Discovery Channel, and Netflix, in the production field as a researcher but also camera department, combining my skills as a journalist and camera operator. I also conduct film workshops with a gender perspective in various educational spaces while continuing to develop personal projects.
